Google Tracking & Analytics
Once your website is live, you’ll want to understand who’s visiting, how they found you, and what pages they interact with. Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is the standard tool for this, and pairing it with Google Tag Manager (optional) makes it even more powerful.
Step 1: Create a Google Analytics Account
- Go to Google Analytics.
- Click Start Measuring → sign in with your Google account.
- Create a new property → select GA4 (default).
- Enter your website details (name, URL, timezone).
Step 2: Install the Tracking Code
Google will give you a measurement ID (looks like G-XXXXXXXX).
Options to add it:
- Elementor/WordPress theme setting → Many themes have a “Header Scripts” field where you can paste it.
- Plugin → Use a plugin like GA Google Analytics or Site Kit by Google (official Google plugin).
- Google Tag Manager → Advanced users can set up Tag Manager to manage multiple tracking codes.
👉 Recommended for beginners: Site Kit by Google — it handles Analytics, Search Console, and more in one plugin.
Step 3: Verify Tracking
- Open your website in a new tab.
- In Google Analytics → Realtime report, check if your visit appears.
- It may take a few minutes to show up.
Step 4: Optional Add-ons
- Google Search Console → Shows what keywords people use to find you.
- Google Ads linking → If you run ads, connect Analytics to track conversions.
